Home and Living Supports
SDA accommodation refers to "Specialist Disability Accommodation." It's designed to support individuals with extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. SDA properties are purpose-built to provide a safe and accessible living environment, featuring specific design elements that enhance mobility and independence.
What is Supported Independent Living?
Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a type of support designed to help people with disabilities live independently while receiving the assistance they need to manage daily tasks. It typically involves support with activities such as cooking, cleaning, personal care, managing medications, and social or community participation. SIL services are commonly provided in shared living arrangements, but they can also be tailored for individuals living on their own.
SIL is a core part of the NDIS (National Disability Insurance Scheme) in Australia, aimed at fostering independence while ensuring individuals have the necessary support to live as autonomously as possible.
Activities of Daily Living (ADL) refer to the basic tasks that individuals perform daily to take care of themselves. These activities are essential for independent living and generally include:
-
Personal hygiene (bathing, grooming, brushing teeth)
-
Dressing (choosing appropriate clothes and putting them on)
-
Eating (the ability to feed oneself)
-
Toileting (getting to and using the bathroom independently)
-
Mobility (getting in and out of bed, walking, or moving around)
-
Transferring (moving from one place to another, like from bed to a chair)
